Updates, July 13, 2009

Since the site's launch on May 17, I really haven't made many changes. The first major one I made today was updating my resume to make it look more fresh and easier to read.

Microsoft Word Format

PDF Format

iPaper Format

I've been using the same resume format since I was 21. I recently took off a whole section on my duties as editor of The Daily Free Press. And when I shared it with a younger colleague a while back as an example of a format she could use, I heard back "Wow, I've never seen anyone use a paragraph format in a resume before."

Ouch, but good point.

I think the resume is now easier to read and describes my accomplishments in a much more visible format. While the .doc, .pdf and iPaper version have all received hits, the .xps version didn't get any hits outside of those I used as testing. That format has now been discontinued.

If you have any comments or suggestions on my resume, please let me know.

Updates, May 31, 2009

Haven't needed to do any updates to the main page in a while, but did want to promote the fact that I've been posting more and more reviews on my Yelp page.

You can see my Yelp reviews here.

Basically, whenever I go out on the weekend, I'm trying to keep track of all the places I've visited and Yelp about them Sunday/Monday night. So that's when the most updates will happen over there. It's just an opportunity for me to write more, because frankly, I miss it, I want people to read it and my personal blog really isn't the place for this kind of things.

Enjoy!

Updates, May 17, 2009

Well, after months of planning, I'm finally redirecting the main site (http://www.billyelenak.com) to this page. It replaces my old online resume in a much more attractive format, and it's a much clearer design. Plus, it uses the Drupal interface, so it's much easier to do updates.

I've also decided to restart my personal blog. I certainly won't be blogging every day, but there will be an update to that page every so often. I'm happy to have finally made the change to the new site, and I'll be updating here on this site's progress as well as the other one. Now I'll just have to keep up both of these pages up to date and current.

I also deactivated RedBleedsGreen.com the other day. It was a Celtics blog that I had been writing on (very infrequently), but it was getting so much spam. When I logged in to deactivate it after not posting in a few months, I noticed that there were more than 2,400 unmoderated comments (clearly marked spam) and 360 other comments that had gone through (not marked spam -- but really were). Obviously, it was time to take a break from that and think about how to fix that in the future. That's also the reason, obviously, there's no commenting here.

Updates, May 7, 2009

Small update today. Suffolk University posted grades for the Spring 2009 Semester.

While my grade for PAD 700 was already posted (an A), my grades for PAD 717 (Organizational Effectives in Government) and PAD819 (Grants-in-Aid and Grants Management) both posted today. I received an A in each class, making it 5 A's this year at Suffolk (four three-credit courses and one one-credit course).

Getting all A's maintains my 4.0 average at Suffolk University. Through my undergraduate career, I regret that I didn't care much about making an effort to get great grades in all my courses until I was a junior -- plus, two C's in Spanish freshman year really hurt the cause. But I feel between my work in the certificate program and my work now through my first full year at Suffolk, I'm really making a better effort to do the best I can in each and every class and on each assignment.

I now am seven courses (21 credits) away from graduation at Suffolk University with my MPA degree (49 credits). I take two classes in the fall, two more in spring 2010, one that summer and two more in fall 2010. If all goes well, I will receive my MPA in December 2010.

Updates, April 9, 2009

The site has undergone quite a few updates since being created a month ago.

Most of the sections have been finalized, but there's still some work to be done in design. I've posted a couple sample designs of The Provider that I designed, as well as the Council's 2009 Annual Report that was just released on Wednesday, April 8. Out of all the things I've designed for the Council, I'm especially proud of the Annual Report, and I really like the initial design of the upcoming Human Services & Nonprofit Sector report that I'm working on right now. We'll see how the finished product comes out.

In the next few weeks, expect more progress on the design section, as well as more articles being posted in the Record-Journal writing site. That's a complete work in progress, and it just takes so long to code pages with my stories since the old RJ website never did it. I'm hoping to have many of them up shortly, but it takes between four and six hours of time to do each month, and my time is something that there's very little of these days.

Thanks for visit, and as always, feel free to direct any questions to me at bill {at} billyelenak [dot] com. You can read more about the site by visiting the About page. Feel free to join me on LinkedIn or start following me on Twitter, and let me know you found out about them from this page!
